Car into limp home, ABS warning light on, finally packed in all together. Disconnected the battery and left it to drain, reconnected and let the ECU reboot, everything sort of working - well enough to drive to David Marks at Wilford. Turned out it was a dud speed sensor on a back wheel. Soon fixed and everything working fine again.

Next job a recommended gearbox oil change, and replacement read lower wishbones :-(

Car leaking water quite badly, seems to be coming from the thermostat housing. Took it to Nationwide Autos for a new plastic housing. Not lost any water since - though it's taken months for the smell of antifreeze to disappear

Re: S-Type Commentary by BobJWoolseyBobJWoolsey, 31 Mar 2014 21:45

S-Type failed it's MOT due to worn front bottom wishbones. Had the front halves replaced as the ball joints each end had worn out. Front wheels were moving back a couple of inches on braking. Now all fixed, and a horrible knocking noise has disappeared. Like driving a new car, wonderful. Work completed quickly and reasonably by David Marks at Welford, Nottingham.

Visited 14-5-2013 with the JDC - most impressed

Saw the XK and F-Type being built - remarkably clean and quiet factory

Both cars stunning! I want one!

Car taken over to SelectaTyre for 4 new AVON ZZ5 245/40R18Y 97Y - £135 each, but considerably cheaper than the recommended Pirelli or Continentals - and a lot quiter than the PZeros which were on the front

Tracking set, new tyres, feels like a new car

Visited Jaguar at Birmingham today with the Jaguar Drivers Club to see the new F-Type being made

to see some photos of the fabulous new F-Type - what a car! One day perhaps :-)

Re: S-Type Commentary by BobJWoolseyBobJWoolsey, 14 May 2013 22:04

Steering fixed over the Bank Holiday weekend - car's been tramlining badly for a while, and last time I took it to have the tracking set, they informed me the inner track rod ball joints where knackered

Bought 2 new ones from Ebay for about £20 each, along with a rack gaiter kit for about £20, and replaced them myself - really easy job

Jack up car, place on axle stands, rip off old gaiters, disconnect track rod end, put large wrench on inner ball joint and unscrew

Assembly a reverse, with a dab of locktite on the inner track rod screw thread to prevent it working loose

Tramling gone, slack in the steering when cornering hard gone - lovely job!

Just needs retracking and a new set of tyres - scheduled for this weekend

Re: S-Type Commentary by BobJWoolseyBobJWoolsey, 09 May 2013 21:25

Water leak suddenly got worse over the weekend, and the heater stopped working - symptons, only hot air from the drivers side, whilst the passenger side working still.

Took the car in to MDM Jaguar Services at Coalville, and Mark fettled it for me at very reasonable cost.

The heater solenoid valve had packed in - a common problem on Jags of this vintage

The solenoid packing in also took out the heater control unit - the computer behind the glove box. Bad but not too bad, it can be fixed with a soldering iron

He also got my disfunctional rear drivers side door latch working again - it would unlock but wouldn't lock on the central locking. It does now

If you have a dicky Jag then take it to Mark at MDM Jags, web page http://www.mdm-jaguars.co.uk/ and I'm sure Mark can fettle it for you

New S Type has a few little niggly issues

1. Rear drivers side door doesn't remote lock - unlocks fine, just doesn't lock - have to do it the old fashioned way

2. Parking sensors worked spasmodically - now never

3. Little bit of wear in the inner track control arm ball joints makes it wander and tramline - and wear the front tyres

4. Slight water leak - loosing around a cupful per week so not desperate - leaking out the back and running down the bellhousing

Will put them right once the weather warms up a little

It's that time again - spring is in the air, and Bobs thoughts turn to replacing his ageing XJ8

I've found a very nice all black S-Type Sport 4.2 in Leicester, and the dealers have taken my XJ8 in part-ex

See my Jaguars page for some dealers pictures - to be replaced with some of my own before too long

Changed the oil and filter the other day - in between the rain showers !

Stuff that came out was pretty filthy - nice clean oil has got to be an improvement !

Got the oil and filter from Shepshed Auto Spares (http://www.shepshedautospares.co.uk/) - excellent price, highly recommended

Passed its MOT today with flying colours

Well almost :-)

Slight wear on the front bottom ball joints - got a year to get them fixed - unless the tyres start wearing oddly

By bike from Thorneywood

Down Gordon Road to Carlton Road - turn right

Past the Army and Navy store (Flittermans?), past the bus depot, turn left onto the bottom end of Parliament Street

Down and right to the traffic island at the end of London Road

Left down London Road towards Trent Bridge

Cut through one of the side streets to Mundella - or…

Straight down to Trent Bridge

Right onto Trent Embankment in time for a quick smoke before arriving at Mundella

phew! Makes me breathless just thinking about it :-)
